The Citizen’s Fire Company is actively seeking members to get involved in fundraising, fire fighting, and fire police

Membership in the Citizen’s Fire Company is open to all men and women who are 16-years of age or older. Members not wishing to become active firefighters are greatly needed. These associate members are those who choose to participate in the fund raising activities of the organization, help maintain the property, and help with all the behind the scenes work involved with running the department. In general, these members do not take an active role in the department's emergency service activities, and do not operate fire department emergency equipment but are allowed to attend regular monthly meetings.

Active Firefighters & Fire Police are those members who have passed a program of basic training approved by the fire officers, and have been active in departmental operation and training programs.  They will also qualify to operate fire apparatus, and function in other specialized roles after meeting additional training requirements.

Be part of one of the most progressive volunteer emergency response organizations in the nation. Training is provided!

Making the commitment to serve your community, as a Volunteer Firefighter or Fire Police is one of the most dedicated and selfless choices that you can make in your life. You will gain even greater satisfaction from being a well-trained and knowledgeable firefighter/Fire Police. As a member of the Citizen’s Fire Company you will have the gratification of being an unpaid professional, shouldering the moral responsibility of doing your job efficiently.

Basic Requirements

Getting started with the Vera Cruz Fire Department is easy...

bulletAt least 16 years of age (18 for Fire Police)
bulletAttendance at monthly meetings and occasional special events
bulletAfter approval at the second monthly general meeting a new member may now start to attend the weekly training sessions held every Tuesday evening starting at 7 p.m.
bulletThe first 3 months will be considered a probation period.  The new member will be required to attend a minimum of 2/3 of the available training nights.  The new member will not be allowed to respond to any fire calls.
bulletAfter successfully completing the probation period and with approval of the fire officers the member will be issued a pager and allowed to respond to fire calls.  The next 3 months will be considered an active probation period where the new member must still attend at least 2/3 of the available Tuesday training sessions.  At this time the new member may also attend any training sessions that are held elsewhere like training classes sponsored by Lehigh County.
bulletAfter completing the active probation period the fire department officers will meet to make a recommendation at the next regularly scheduled monthly meeting to accept the new member as an active firefighter.
bulletVarious Firefighting/Fire Police courses will be recommended to the new member to take as soon as they are feasible. All courses are free of charge!
